Upon receiving information regarding the matter, Ruturaj immediately requested the patient’s hospital admission records, treatment documents, Aadhaar details, and bank account information through WhatsApp. Without insisting on formal meetings or lengthy procedures, he initiated the process for financial assistance through the District Red Cross Fund and advised the family to explore additional support through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Within a short period, financial assistance was sanctioned and transferred to the journalist’s account, providing much-needed relief during a difficult phase. Tapas Das later recovered and expressed his gratitude for the timely intervention.
A similar instance of humanitarian support recently came to light in the case of senior journalist Parameswar Das, popularly known as “Bulan Bhai,” who has been undergoing prolonged treatment following a serious accident.
After learning about his condition through social media and fellow journalists, including Swarupa Nanda Das of Pratidin, members of the media fraternity once again approached the Khordha Collector seeking assistance. Responding promptly, Ruturaj asked for the necessary documents and assured that the matter would be processed without delay.
What impressed many was the proactive follow-up by the Collector’s office. When there was a delay in submitting the required documents, officials from the Collectorate contacted the concerned persons and requested immediate submission so that assistance could be expedited.
Once the documents were received, financial support from the District Red Cross Fund was approved and transferred to Parameswar Das’s account, helping to ease the burden of his ongoing medical treatment.
Members of the journalist community have praised the Collector’s responsiveness and accessibility. They note that despite his demanding administrative responsibilities, he remains approachable and willing to act swiftly in cases involving genuine human need.
The efforts also received support from several journalists and well-wishers, including Swarupa Nanda Das (Pratidin), Sarat Babu, Dibakar Sahu, and others who coordinated documentation and communication. The role of media organizations in highlighting such cases has also been acknowledged. Publications such as Odisha Mirror, under the leadership of Editor Dilip Biswal and News Editor Sudhanshu Biswal, helped bring attention to the plight of the affected journalists and subsequently reported the positive outcome of the assistance.
